The Newcastle Baseball Association announces the expansion of player opportunities for the 2008 season with the re-introduction of adult play in Northeast Wyoming and the Southern Black Hills.
Adult baseball teams are now forming in Newcastle, Upton, Wright, and Gillette, Wyo., to compete along with Custer and Hot Springs, in the adult division of the Newcastle Baseball Association, tentatively named the Grasslands-South Hills Adult Baseball League (GSHBL).
“To date we are yet to find a key man to organize for us over in Hot Springs,” said GSHBL organizer Shane Sellers. He added that he is hoping that many of the players from Hot Springs who were part of the town’s previous men’s team, which competed in the Black Hills League in Rapid City a couple of summers ago, would be interested in joining this new league.
Sellers said the League revives the old days of “town baseball” when every hamlet in America sponsored one or more local “nines” to represent the community in regional ......
