A new and exciting event has been added to the Ubly Homecoming. Ubly High School varsity baseball coach Jim Becker has helped coordinate the Fight Against Cancer Baseball Tournament.

“It doesn’t get any better than summer baseball,” said Becker. “We’re just hoping to have some fun, competitive games while raising money to fight cancer.” Teams paid $150 to participate while other money was raised through sponsorship. “I don’t know how much money we’re going to raise, but we’re looking to do as much as we can,” Becker said.

Although the tournament is just getting established, it has already attracted teams from as far away as Flint, as well as Central Michigan University’s club team.

Five teams will compete in an elimination style tournament, with games starting Friday night and ending on Sunday.

The game on Friday is slated for 6 p.m. while the weekend games will begin at 9 a.m. each day.

Aluminum bats will be used during the tournament.
