Finnish sports equipment maker Amer Sports Corp. said Tuesday it will lay off about 400 workers at its newly acquired winter and outdoor sports division Salomon, mainly in France.

The move aimed at increasing competitiveness will save the company more than euro40 million (US$48 million) annually by the end of 2008, Amer Sports said.

The Helsinki-based company, which owns international brands Wilson, Atomic, Suunto and Precor, completed the acquisition of Salomon in a euro485 million (US$63......
