Plans for a bowling center in Urbandale's Northpark Business Centre will move forward as area residents and business owners continue to debate what is the best use of the site.

The council voted Tuesday to amend the city's comprehensive plan and master plan for the Northpark Business Centre to allow retail use in the portion of the park at 8901-8951 Northpark Drive.

That move would allow construction of a bowling center. City officials would still need to approve site plans before the business could be built.


Council members John Forbes, Mary Polson and Ron Pogge endorsed the change Tuesday. Councilman Michael Carver abstained from the vote. He is a broker associate of Mid-America Group, which is representing Brunswick Bowling, the company that plans to build the bowling center.

Councilman Tom Gayman cast the lone dissenting vote Tuesday. Gayman argued that the space should be used as the city planned - for office development. Gayman said the space would best benefit the ......
