The Juneau Jambaars Soccer Club’s U-16 boys team recently finished a round-robin tournament at the Nike Crossfire Challenge in Redmond, Wash., and are seated first place for today’s finals.

“We’re happy with the way they’ve been progressing,” team manager Paul Bertholl said. “This is our first full-field tournament this year. We’re happy that each game they’re improving.”

The tournament, which expected around 200 teams, started Saturday. The Jambaars lost 2-3 to United Caro in the morning game.

Max Smith scored the first goal of game in the fourth minute of the second half, followed by a goal by Andy Lawson.

In their second game, the Jumbaars tied 2-2 against Blackhills on Saturday evening. Adam Nesheim scored the first goal, and Alex Kelley scored the second goal for Juneau.

On Sunday, the Jumbaars beat Crossfire Premier Red 1-0. Rhett Bennett scored the game’s only goal late in the second half.
